What an exhilarating 2nd half! With the threat of Charlton coming out all guns blazing after conceding late in the 1st half to a goal from Darren Ward, Millwall maintained a tight defence and soon gained the upper hand. Although Charlton still threatened, Millwall got the better half of the game in the 2nd half with plenty of chances. The big change came around the 70th minute when Neil Harris came on for Shaun Batt and almost immediately he forced an OG by Christian Dailly on the 74th minute.
2 minutes later Steve Morison finally got the goal he’d been threatening all game to take the Lions to 3 – 0, then again 5 minutes later on the 81st Morison got his brace. He never got the chance for his hat-trick though, coming off minutes later to make room for Jonathan Obika’s regular brief appearance. Charlton’s heads had dropped and the final whistle came as blessing to both their players and fans, had it continued longer Millwall would have no doubt got their 5th, maybe more.
Millwall’s fans by the end chanting “You’re shit and you know you are”!! The atmosphere in the Den was absolutely electric, 14 years in the making, the sell out crowd that were lucky enough to get tickets to this show case match were treated to a goal fest! Millwall now sitting 4th in League 1, a single point now separating them and 3rd place Charlton, 6 points between them and 2nd place Leeds and games against 1st, 2nd, 5th, 6th and 7th place teams still in the coming weeks, Millwall have still got all to play for with 2nd place no longer seeming out of reach!
